Dear Hollywood

cleversimon:

shuffstuff:

I don’t like to get hysterical over things, but Jake Gyllenhaal is in Prince of Persia.

Not only is he in it, he is The Prince. Of Persia.

I’m not going to discuss his merits as an actor—it’s entirely beside the point. He’s white.

I’m with you 100% on this, Shuff, but feel compelled to note that the original Prince of Persia was a blonde white guy.

Why do you feel compelled to note that? It’s beside the point. The movie that’s coming out is Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and the protagonist of that game is not white. Turning protagonists white is a terrible thing that Hollywood shouldn’t be able to get away with (but does, frequently), and when you dismiss it with a post like this it makes the “with you 100% on this” part sound like you don’t want to sound racist but you think it’s justified because a different character in a game with the same franchise title happens to be white.
